Accomplishments for Child Care & Families
Child Care Scholarships: Keeping Families Enrolled During Freezes
When the state's Child Care Scholarship Program runs low on funding, it sometimes freezes new enrollments, which can cut off exactly the families who need help most. I changed that. This law makes sure families on public assistance, siblings of children already enrolled, and kids experiencing homelessness can never be turned away because of an administrative pause.
Securing $3.7 Million for Therapeutic Child Care Programs
Families of young children with developmental, physical, or behavioral disabilities often can't find child care equipped to meet their child's needs. This law secures $3.7 million from FY2027–2029 for specialized programs serving children from birth to age 6, so these kids get the care they need and their parents can stay in the workforce.
Better Pay Pathways for Early Childhood Educators
Maryland's Career Ladder program was designed to reward early childhood educators with better pay and professional development. But arbitrary enrollment deadlines were blocking qualified educators from advancing. I replaced those deadlines with flexible, progression-based timelines, so qualified educators can move up, and earn more, without bureaucratic delay.
